Compiled by Register Stafffeatures@nhregister.comTurtle maze opens Saturday at Lyman OrchardsMIDDLEFIELD — It’s turtle time at Lyman Orchards starting Saturday, when the farm unveils a 3-acre sunflower maze shaped like a turtle.Open until Sept. 6, the maze has more than 2 miles of pathways and takes even speedy visitors 30-45 minutes to complete. There are trivia questions to answer inside the maze, as well, offering clues to find the exit.Also, for every maze ticket sold, Lyman Orchards will donate $1 to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford. Tickets are $9 for visitors ages 13 and older, $5 for kids ages 4-12. The maze will be open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last tickets sold at 4:30 p.m. For more information, call 860-349-1793 or visit www.lymanorchards.com.Plenty to do at Walnut BeachMILFORD — If you’re anywhere near Walnut Beach this weekend, and you like ice cream, art or running, you’re in luck.The fun starts Saturday night, from 7 to 9, with big band music by the Hot Cat Jazz Band at the Devon Rotary pavilion. The concert is free.Then on Sunday, the Walnut Beach Ice Cream 5K Race begins at 8:30 a.m. Registration opens at 7 a.m. at the corner of Viscount Drive and East Broadway, with a free kids’ race at 8 a.m. The race winds its way through Walnut Beach and Silver Sands State Park.Finally, the Walnut Beach Arts Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, also at Viscount Drive and East Broadway. There will be a juried art show with 80 vendors, offering food, music and an antique car parade. The free festival offers music, kosher food and vendors selling a variety of arts and crafts items.The performers at the festival will include the What’s Up Band, doing Jewish-American rock; Pey Dalid, mixing roots, rock, reggae and traditional Jewish music in English and Hebrew; Klezmenschen, an Eastern Connecticut big band specializing in Yiddish and Israeli folk melodies; The Third Temple Band, presenting soulful, musical prayers; and the Robert Rogers Puppet Company, with stories from Jewish history and traditions.
